Of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill

Okay, this is outrageous! I am quite sure that everybody knows about the stupid oil spill that took place two months ago. It was all over the news and all and I wasn't going to say anything about it because I wanted to stay out of writing about political issues on my blog. I changed my mind after reading the newest articles on Yahoo! on how the spill affected baby animals.

No matter how difficult it is, I don't think people are working fast enough to clear the water from oil. And what is the US of A oh-so-great-and-charming president doing? TALK! Mere talk won't do anything to help those who suffer from the spill, you fool! Obama, you suck! (Go on arrest me, I'm not even your citizen and will never want to be).

He promised to 'give compensation' to oil spill victims and all. WTF. How do you think he will be able to compensate for the dying animals out there!

How will he compensate for this:

Or this:

Or this:

All he did was talk and talk and talk. And these guys suffer. And I'm not even sure that he gives a damn about this thing now anyway.

I'm not a person who puts animals above humans, but I value animal lives as much as I value human lives and what I saw hurt me.

  1. It's not Obama's fault which is the common misconception. All the safety measures should have not failed, they should be regualr inspected and that's the fault of the Bush administration. I think it's absolutely horrible, but they are working as fast as they can. There's just not much they can do besides burning off the oil and trying to contain it. They fitted a tighter cap yesterday that seems to be working better and are making progress towards stopping the oil, hopefully by mid-August like planned. They can't rush the process for fear of another break.

Basically, this should have never happened, they definitely needed to have more strigent policies in place. All I can hope is that BP doesn't go bankrupt. People need to buy gas from BP because if they do go bankrupt, then our government has to pay for it and it comes out of our pocket.

  2. I know it's not his fault. I'm just mad, I guess. And well, that Obama has been spending more of his time making appearances than working - not only in this case.

You should really watch Lie To Me. They have some of Obama "lie expressions" on screen. :)

On a very different note: Welcome to LJ, Sabby. I'm glad you come aboard! ((hugs))

  3. You are both right. Obama can't do anything more to clean up the spill than what he's already doing. The technology to do this lies with the oil companies and BP in particular. The other oil companies don't have the technology either.

The priority right now is to stop the leak totally, and start the clean up of the mess. This is going to take years to clean (if it ever goes back to pristine it will be a miracle)

And you are right. Lets hope BP doesn't go into liquidation over this because it would then be left up to the US Govt (that is , US citizens) to foot the bill.

The only thing I would like to see though is an administrator put in place to stop BP selling off assets or deciding to pay shareholders before paying the bills.

Like everyone else, I've been horrified at what has happened to the environment and I've seen animals that were so badly covered I didn't even recognise them.

My heart goes out to those hard-working people who have now lost their livelihood for the foreseeable future. And to all those who have lost their happy lifestyles.

And Singinglupines is right when he says the fault lies with the EPA and the lack of regulation oversight. Right now, its those people we (as in the US) should be prosecuting for dereliction of duty and responsibility. If you staff the security of a hen house with foxes, why be surprised when you have no chickens left?

  4. @AJ - I do! That show is awesome, watched it from day 1. And yeah I can understand the anger. Thanks, it seems a bit complicated so I'm trying to find my way around.
@Jan - I too feel really bad for the poor people living down there and now suffering from depression. The lack of regulation is ridiculous, it's awful that it always takes a disaster to iniate change.

  8. absolutely heart breaking isn't it. Not to mention all the people whose livelihoods have been completely destroyed. I can't help thinking this could have been cleared up sooner and with many less casualties from the animal world.

  9. The government should take necessary steps against this. Mind breaking one!

  10. This oil spill is going to effect the economy and ecosystem for years to come. Obama and the top executives of BP have all made a world of promises. They say they are doing everything possible to clean it up, sorry but that's too little too late.

Nothing is going to bring back the wildlife and people killed by this. It is definately not over either. I believe our children are going to be feeling the impact from this years from now.

  11. How pitiful those innocent animals are! Why do they have to suffer this way?
